FabSlam!!

For our FabSlam project, my team and I decided to make a weather proof helmet to make travel safer and easier for bikers.

Our design was basically a helmet with a protective layer between the shell and padding of the helmet to keep rain out and glasses connected to the helmet for eye protection.

To do this we ordered a helmet and cloth from amazon. Then we designed a template for our goggles on Tinkercad. After printing the glasses for the first time, we discovered that our design was not structured to fit to our helmet. So, we went back to the drawing board and created a new design. This one was more round so that it fit around the edge or the helmet. This design worked perfectly with the helmet. We put clear acrylic as the lenses.

The most challenging part of the project was getting the glasses to fit properly and getting the scaling and design correct.

To improve out product, we would put a visor over the goggles to keep rain out of the wearer’s vision also, we would use waterproof breathable fabric to ensure precipitation protection.

3D Printer Build!!!

While building the 3d printer, I learned how to work as a team. How to divide tasks so that everyone has an equal contribution to the completion of the project.

My biggest challenge was finishing the project because I get tired of doing the same task for a couple of weeks but, I overcame this by making the task fun so that I didn’t get bored.

I am most proud of myself for actually making the 3d printer because I never thought that I would make one because i am not very good at building things.

I was fortunate to have a good team so we had minimal problems and we worked efficiently. We split jobs up according to who had done something that day.

I wouldn’t build another 3d printer because the process was really long and tedious.

Capstone Project Progress!!

So, for my Capstone project I am making a makey makey drum kit. I changed my mind abut using 3d printed pieces and now, I am making a console using cardboard, foam, Duck Tape, aluminum foil, and glitter glue.

I am also making a scratch game to go with my kit. It’s not finished though so…yeah I will be doing that next!

My favorite mini project was the graphic design project. I learned how to use “Gimp,” a graphic design software, to make an original character. There are a lot of tools within the “Gimp” software that I used to help me make it. The blend and glow brush really helped me to even out the surface of Poof Poof, my character. I also used the layer tool to individually edit each part of Poof Poof.

Hello world!

My favorite project that I’ve made at Maker Foundations is the 3D printing. It is so fun and easy once you learn how to use the equipment. Here are some pictures of the projects I’ve made :

This first piece is a egg bunny wearing a bow.

4-up-on-11-21-16-at-5-33-pm-compiled

This piece is a quilt piece that has the letters “PTX” on it.

4-up-on-11-21-16-at-5-36-pm-compiled

Three thing I learned from this module:

  1. Tinkercad is really easy to use.
  2. How to scale an object in plane size to real life size.
  3. How a 3D printer works.
